[問題] 想請問一個問題

請問一下各位老師，以下哪句對的(例子我是隨便舉的)
There are a dog,a cat and a mouse in the yard.
There is a dog, a cat and a mouse in the yard.

重點是be動詞的用法，我一直以為應該是第一句，因為後面有很多東西
可是今天有人跟我說第二句才是對的，因為第一個講的東西是單數
所以要用is才對。
特地來請問各位老師，尋求正確解答

另外想請問
My cat sits on the chair.

這句如果我是要問，什麼東西坐在椅子上?
What sits on the chair?
What does sit on the chair?

哪一句才是對的阿?

2個小問題，麻煩各位老師幫忙解惑一下，感謝^^~
