A) Right now, we just wrapped "The L Word" at the end of October and I took a little time off. I went to Europe for a couple weeks and then there was the holidays. I've probably taken just a small handful of meetings since then. I am just waiting to see if there is going to be a strike. Q) What is new this season on "The L Word" and with your character Tina? A) I think this season the storylines have moved on from the fifth season. She's still in the movie business, she's still producing and she's still struggling with how difficult the industry can be, especially for women trying to get projects made. Basically, you see a lot of what happens in the relationship of Bette and Tina (now that they are in one) that is hopefully with a lot less drama. She's kind of working on that relationship and they face the issue of whether to have another child or adopt another one. There are some interesting storylines coming up with that. Q) What made you want to be a part of the show originally? A) It was really simple for me. It was just a really good script. At the time, I was playing Justine on "Angel" for The WB. That was a great character and a lot of fun, but I was reoccurring and not a regular so I had the freedom to look for something else. I just sort of felt that it was rare to have a script with so many strong female characters and it was also just refreshing to not necessarily be the wife or the girlfriend of the guy. I just felt like it was really good. I didn't have any idea that it would be as groundbreaking as it was. You just sort of jump in. You commit to something because you think it is good and let it fall where it does. It's just amazing we went six seasons. It's really amazing! Q) What about your role continues to challenge you? A) My character has gone through so many changes. I've always fought for a good arch and I think she becomes very strong at the end. There are still things that are a challenge that are different for me. I guess playing anything that is not familiar to me would be a challenge. I think at times the first season was really hard because the character was much more co-dependent and lost her identity. That is very different from my personality so that at times was uncomfortable. It was very challenging to do the role pregnant and work the day before my water broke. It was hard doing pregnant nude scenes. The list goes on and on! In a way, I think once you've created a character for so long there is also this great benefit really of quickly and instinctively knowing what kind of choice the character would make in every scene. Q) After five seasons together, how does the cast continue to maintain their chemistry? A) I don't even know how it happens, but we just click...all of us. With the core group, it just happened immediately. I think it is just that gratitude of being on a show that is unique and different. It's just fun to come to work every day. It's a great drama and it is an emotional based show that has reached so many people. It has such a profound social impact and that is just really rewarding as an actress because there is so much TV that you look, read and audition for that you wouldn't even watch and you don't feel it really affects people in the same way. So, when we talk and there is all this chemistry, there is this feeling like, "Isn't this cool that we get to do this as our job?" That is in our chemistry. Q) Where do you continue to draw from for your portrayal? A) A lot of times if there is something I'm unsure about then I'll go to Ilene [Chaiken]. She's been a great help. The storyline with Henry (Steven Eckholdt), I didn't really know why she was behaving that way and where it came from. So, I went to Ilene who said, "This happened to a friend of mine and let me tell you what happened. It happened when she was in a relationship for a long time and she had a kid. Then, all of a sudden they broke up and she went out with a man." I was like, "Oh, ok." Then, she talked about how sometimes in same sex marriages when they have children and they go to school, you are kind of thrown more into a straight world. Tina has always sort of crossed back and forth because before that she was with a man. Although, I think physically she is classified as a bisexual, but politically she identifies as being classified as a lesbian. There were just things over the past six years where I'd say, "Wait...Why is she behaving this way?" I could always get an answer from one of the writers and they could always give me a reference point or they could explain the story to me. One of the things we did with that storyline was to explore how certain characters would judge Tina for being with a man and certain characters wouldn't and what it felt emotionally for her to be disconnected from her core group of friends. So, I kind of feel like there are stories that the writers and Ilene feel very passionate about because they've seen it happen either to themselves or to their friends. It could be a story that they thought would be interesting to tell. Part of my job as an actor is to ask as many questions as possible before I make my choices. Then, after that, you kind of have to throw the homework away and be in the moment so the scene is fresh. Q) What has been your most memorable moment from filming "The L Word?" A) The scene where Dana died, when we visit her. That is a really intense memory. There are some comedic moments like when we did the "Charlie's Angels" parody. Leisha Hailey's wig fell off right in the middle of one of the takes. People couldn't continue working because we were laughing so hard. We were like on the floor! It's just the goofy little moments that break up a fifteen hour day or a long work week. I think everybody has a good sense of humor. Also, we were shooting in Vancouver, but still shooting for LA. There are some really beautiful parts of Vancouver that are pretty amazing. Q) Why do you think people continue to tune in and watch the show? A) I'd like to think we created some rich characters and we've told some interesting stories. I feel like we did this amazing thing with where maybe a fifteen year old girl in the middle of America who wants to come out, but doesn't know how can tune in and watch television where she sees something familiar to her. It kind of reflects her image back at her. There is that and I hear about all these straight women that watch it. Maybe people just relate to these women. It's just fun to watch. Q) After six seasons of "The L Word," the show is coming to a close. Are you satisfied with the ending? A) Yes, we have shot it and I have seen the final script. I haven't seen the episode though. I've seen the ending and it is fine. Q) What made you want to be an actress? A) I didn't think, in my childhood, that I would end up as an actress. I was showing horses and I was really shy. I thought I would grow up and be a vet. Then, I got interested my first year of college and then once I took an improv class I just felt that there was something very liberating about it. I just got really lucky when I did The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls In Love and it went to Sundance. Early on, I just started getting a lot of film work. It just sort of became more of a reality and something that I just needed to do. There are some days I don't know why I need to do it, but just right now it is the only thing I know how to do. Q) Where can people go online to learn more about you? A) They can go to http://www.laurelholloman.com or http://www.thelword.com. Some of the stuff out there on the Internet is not very accurate and I mean that across the board for almost all of us on the show. There is just a massive amount on the Internet right now. But those two sites are good. Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work? A) Thank you! Thank you for standing by us and thank you for being there. I just truly feel that we have the best fans out there. I say that because I've never had an uncomfortable moment with a fan. Everyone is so grateful and gracious. I think it has touched people on such a deep level. I feel really lucky and I think we have a great fan base. -- 我說阿...Lu每次的訪問都這麼健談阿 orz -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 218.160.244.36
