I think you may want to be a little more careful about what you tell
others, because they may actually rely on your comments and make a fool of
themselves in the international arena.
Typically when we offer a class we must come up with a course name. If the
class is offered by a teacher who specializes in an area that no one else can
handle, that class may be offered only during the duration of his/her stay.
Thus, any "hard" coding in class names would give registrar's office
headaches since it will need to go through college and university curriculum
committees for approval first -- knowing all that work would be useless after
the person leaves. So, we always have classes with names such as "seminar"
or "special topics" just for such occassion.
These two terms are used interchangeably and make no tangible differences.
Like I have said, one sounds classier than the other; that's all.
