: Chandler: Alright, so I'm back in high school,
:           I'm standing in the middle of the cafeteria,
:           and I realize I am totally naked.
: All: Oh, yeah. Had that dream.

美國的高中還是國民義務教育,

所以是照學區分發,很有可能還是跟小學國中同學/鄰居同校.

加上美國高中是每堂課學生都要換教室,

每個人的課表都不一樣,很少有兩人會有完全相同的課表,

所以你在每一堂課的同學都多少有些變動,能認識的人就更多了,

很多規模較小的學校甚至有可能是全年級甚至全校都認識彼此,

認識太久就比較容易有糾葛有八卦傳來傳去.(電影Mean Girl可說頗為寫實)

所以有很多梗都是"高中時怎樣生存".

美國高中午餐時間是全校分批分時段集中到Cafeteria一起用餐,

感覺很像我們的朝會,是全校學生集合的時間.

綜合以上所有特色,大家才會說"都做過在學校餐廳裸體的夢"

順帶一提,美國的高中下課時間非常短,只有六七分鐘(都不會照時鐘刻度整整的五分十分)

只勉強夠你趕到下一個教室,要是教室遠一點,你連上廁所的機會都沒有.

很多校園影集或電影會拍學生們一聽到下課鐘就全部像觸電一樣跳起來,原因就是在這裡.

午餐時間也是二十分鐘內就結束,沒有午休,更沒有打掃時間,

美國高中能下午兩三點就放學,其實跟下課時間很短有關係.

: Chandler: Then I look down, and I realize there's a phone... there.
: Joey: Instead of...?
: Chandler: That's right.
: Joey: Never had that dream.
: Phoebe: No.
: Chandler: All of a sudden, the phone starts to ring.
:           Now I don't know what to do, everybody starts looking at me.
: Monica: And they weren't looking at you before?!
: Chandler: Finally, I figure I'd better answer it,
:           and it turns out it's my mother,
:           which is very-very weird, because- she never calls me!
: [Time Lapse, Ross has entered.]
: Ross: (mortified) Hi.
: Joey: This guy says hello, I wanna kill myself.
: Monica: Are you okay, sweetie?
: Ross: I just feel like someone reached down my throat,
:       grabbed my small intestine,
:       pulled it out of my mouth and tied it around my neck...
: Chandler: Cookie?
: Monica: (explaining to the others) Carol moved her stuff out today.
: Joey: Ohh.
: Monica: (to Ross) Let me get you some coffee.
: Ross: Thanks.
: Phoebe: Ooh! Oh! (She starts to pluck at the air just in front of Ross.)
: Ross: No, no don't! Stop cleansing my aura!
:       No, just leave my aura alone, okay?
: Phoebe: Fine!  Be murky!
: Ross: I'll be fine, alright? Really, everyone. I hope she'll be very happy.
: Monica: No you don't.
: Ross: No I don't, to hell with her, she left me!
: Joey: And you never knew she was a lesbian...
: Ross: No!! Okay?! Why does everyone keep fixating on that?
:       She didn't know, how should I know?
: Chandler: Sometimes I wish I was a lesbian...
:           (They all stare at him.) Did I say that out loud?
: Ross: I told mom and dad last night, they seemed to take it pretty well.
: Monica: Oh really, so that hysterical phone call I got
:         from a woman at sobbing 3:00 A.M.,
:         "I'll never have grandchildren, I'll never have grandchildren."
:         was what?  A wrong number?
: Ross: Sorry.
: Joey: Alright Ross, look. You're feeling a lot of pain right now.
:       You're angry. You're hurting. Can I tell you what the answer is?
: (Ross gestures his consent.)
: Joey: Strip joint! C'mon, you're single! Have some hormones!
: Ross: I don't want to be single, okay?
:       I just... I just- I just wanna be married again!
: (Rachel enters in a wet wedding dress and starts to search the room.)
: Chandler: And I just want a million dollars!
:           (He extends his hand hopefully.)
: Monica: Rachel?!
: Rachel: Oh God Monica hi! Thank God!
:         I just went to your building and you weren't there
:         and then this guy with a big hammer said you might be here
:         and you are, you are!
: Waitress: Can I get you some coffee?
: Monica: (pointing at Rachel) De-caff. (to All) Okay, everybody,
:         this is Rachel, another Lincoln High survivor.
         這邊會說"survivor"也是承續上述美國高中的特色

:         (to Rachel) This is everybody, this is Chandler,
:         and Phoebe, and Joey, and- you remember my brother Ross?
: Rachel: Hi, sure!
: Ross: Hi.
: (They go to hug but Ross's umbrella opens.
:  He sits back down defeated again.
:  A moment of silence follows as Rachel sits

: Monica: So you wanna tell us now, or are we waiting for four wet bridesmaids?

美國的結婚習俗是流行找一個以上的伴娘(只有一個當然也可以,只是比較不流行).

一般伴娘,也就是只負責穿美美進場以及跟新人拍照的,叫做bridesmaid.

而最重要的那個--就是要負責主辦告別單身派對以及Bridal Shower,

還有在婚禮那天於行進間幫新娘拉裙襬/上廁所的伴娘,

叫做"maid of honor",一般都是新娘最好的姐妹淘或親姊妹.

maid of honor不跟其他伴郎一起進場,而是等所有伴郎伴娘都進場後單獨進場,

接下來就是新娘進場.

跟maid of honor配對的男生叫做bestman,一般都是新郎的換帖兄弟or親兄弟.

一般來說bestman不用負責牽任何伴娘進場,而是一開始就跟新郎一起站在證婚人面前.

其餘跟一般伴娘配對,要牽伴娘進場的伴郎叫做groomsman.

Ross跟Emily結婚那次因為他最後決定Chandler跟Joey都是bestman,

所以就變成他們兩個人都要牽伴娘了.

Monica說4個伴娘在這邊並不是真的指4個,只是要表示"有很多個".

再來就是美國的習俗是新娘一套白紗穿到底,中途不會換裝,
(也是有新娘會換裝,但頂多就是婚禮一套婚宴一套,不會三四套換不停)

而如果新娘白紗是選擇有拖地長裙襬的款式,

通常長裙襬都是做成可拆or可以用巧妙手法收短,

讓新娘在參加婚宴時方便行走與開舞.

拆/收裙襬的任務也是由maid of honor與bridsmaid負責.

此外伴娘不流行穿白色,通常都是穿新娘指定的款式與顏色,

這就是為什麼Friends裡所有的婚禮裡,伴娘的禮服都沒有白的.

有很多影集跟電影都有新娘為了不讓伴娘搶自己的風采而故意指定醜陋伴娘服的梗.

Rachel也曾經穿著"瑪麗有隻小綿羊"泡泡糖色伴娘服去當人家的maid of honor.

: Rachel: Oh God... well, it started about a half hour before the wedding.
:         I was in the room where we were keeping all the presents,
:         and I was looking at this gravy boat.
:         This really gorgeous Lamauge gravy boat. When all of a sudden-

:         And then I got really freaked out, and that's when it hit me:

:         Anyway, I just had to get out of there,
:         and I started wondering 'Why am I doing this,
:         and who am I doing this for?'.
:         (to Monica) So anyway I just didn't know where to go,
:         and I know that you and I have kinda drifted apart,

美國婚禮較不流行送紅包(想送也是可以),

而是新人開禮物單隨喜帖一起寄出,賓客照禮物單挑自己想送的禮物送.

禮物單上的品項通常都是家電用品/家具/餐具等建立新家需要的物品.

跟台灣收到喜帖一定要送紅包一樣,

在美國收到喜帖,不管要不要出席都還是要送禮才算禮貌.

而Rachel看到的"gravy boat"就是長得像這樣的東西:

→ ShiningRuby:piece或Toupee比較像是"髮片",讓男生遮禿頭用的
