我去查了一下,"to hell with somebody/something"是idiom,
表示某人或某物不再重要了,
並不是純指字面上的"下地獄"的意思,也沒有牽扯到Carol以外的人.
所以我認為翻成"去她的"應該比較符合原意,
還有"to hell with"是非常不正式的說法,使用時請注意場合.
基本上會用到"Hell"的都是非常不正式且無禮的說法.
代替Hell的是Heck---這是我學生(美國高中白人女生/爸爸是牧師)教我的:)
所以如果你真的很想說what the hell,但又想稍微保有氣質,
可以說what the heck.
不過因為"to hell with"是慣用法,像這種情況好像就不能擅自改成"to heck with"
跟"近朱者赤"講成"近朱者紅"就怪怪的一樣.
