Who could the Yankees acquire before the trade deadline?
With the injury to Masahiro Tanaka, the Yankees rotation is in dire need of
help. Brian Cashman said the Yankees are looking to be aggressive during the
trade deadline and there are a few names that are reportedly on the trading
block. Here are a few names I compiled that could be a fit for the Yankees.
Cliff Lee: Let’s start with a pitcher that had a chance to be a starting
pitcher for the Yankees but instead signed with the Philadelphia Phillies
during the 2010-2011 offseason. Sure, Lee is rehabbing from an elbow injury,
but if the Yankees are willing to eat some of Lee’s contract, the deal could
work.
Another plus side: the Yankees won’t have to sell the farm for Lee at
this point of his career.
Cole Hamels:
It’s worth mentioning the Yankees aren’t on Hamel’s no-trade
list, but he’s more expensive than Lee. He has $100 Million left on his
contract and he’s 30–the Yankees are going to have to give away more
prospects just to acquire him.
Ian Kennedy:
Could a reunion between Kennedy and the Yankees be a
possibility? Kennedy is 7-9 with a 3.71 ERA in 19 starts with the Padres and
although his last stint with the Yankees didn’t work out well, maybe a
second time around might be a charm.
David Price: David Price is the most unlikely out of the four pitchers,
mostly because the Tampa Bay Rays would never trade within the division. It’
s not their style.
Not only that, the Yankees don’t have a prospect worth
trading for Price. Still, David Price as a Yankee was a nice thought and like
Brandon McCarthy recently tweeted: “pinstripes are slimming.”
