Joe Girardi has officially announced Michael Pineda will be the fifth starter in the Yankees rotation and David Phelps along with Adam Warren will move to the Yankees bullpen. Phelps was scheduled to be the starter for tonight’s game but was switched with Warren, who will be the long man. Phelps’s role in the pen has yet to be determined. Girardi knew Pineda had a shot to make the rotation in mid-February when he witnessed his bullpens and Pineda’s 15 innings of work while giving up two earned runs this Spring furthered his case. Pineda joins CC Sabathia, Hiroki Kuroda, Ivan Nova and Masahiro Tanaka as the Yankees starters for the 2014 season. --
