Post-doctoral position in functional gene analysis/adipose biology at Wake
Forest University School of Medicine.
We are seeking a post-doctoral fellow who will work jointly with Dr. Leah
Solberg Woods and Dr. Chia-Chi Chuang Key in the Department of Internal
Medicine, Molecular Medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
The principal duties of the post-doctoral fellow will be to use in vitro and
in vivo tools to assess the functional/mechanistic role of novel genes recently
identified for adiposity.
The Solberg Woods laboratory uses outbred rats and statistical/genetic tools
to find regions of the genome, and underlying candidate genes, that affect
obesity and related traits.
Her group has recently identified several novel gene targets and they are seeking
to understand underlying gene function.
The research in the Key laboratory focused on elucidating the physiologic and
molecular mechanisms controlling lipid metabolism and their relationship to
the pathogenesis of disease.
The major goals are to understand how disruption of hepatic and adipose
triacylglycerol homeostasis contributes to metabolic diseases and to exploit
those insights to develop new preventative measures and therapies.
The post-doctoral fellow will work jointly with both Drs. Solberg Woods and
Key to design and execute experiments to test gene function and underlying
mechanism with specific focus on lipid homeostasis and metabolism.
The joint laboratories will provide a vibrant, collegial, and supportive
environment.
The successful applicant should have relevant scientific education (PhD
degree in Cellular/Molecular Biology, Physiology, Nutritional Science,
Biochemistry or related degree), with experience in lipid biology preferred
as well as strong written and oral communication skills.
A background in genetics will be valued.
Applications will be considered as they arrive. A cover letter, CV and a
selection of published or unpublished articles should be attached to your
on-line application.
Three letters of recommendations will be requested for successful applicants.
If you have any questions regarding this position, please e-mail Dr. Solberg
Woods (lsolberg@wakehealth.edu) or Dr. Key (cchuang@wakehealth.edu).
