Athletics signed LHP Barry Zito to a minor league contract with an invitation
to spring training.
He'll make $1 million if he cracks the big league roster with $175,000 more
available in incentives. Zito sat out the 2014 season but decided he wanted
to pitch again in 2015 and will now have the opportunity to do so with the
organization that drafted him. Slated to turn 37 in May, Zito posted a 4.82
ERA and 1.52 WHIP in his last two seasons with the Giants. He's certainly
landed in a favorable ballpark but will face a big uphill battle in his bid
to win a rotation spot.
