The year of the home run continued Tuesday. The night's game slate, which saw
the Braves' Freddie Freeman and Cubs' Anthony Rizzo both crank two homers, now
gives the league a running total of 37(!) consecutive days in which at least
one player has had a two-home run day.

The last day a single player didn't hit a home run was July 14. Overall, there
have been 113 individual multi-homer performances across the 37-day streak.
Only nine times has the streak extended on a single multi-homer performance.

The MLB record as of 2016 for two-home run games was just 20 in a row. This
year's streak eclipsed last year's 29-day streak from April 16-May 14, 2018.

On a night in which Mike Trout matched the MLB lead with his career-best 42nd
homer, the two-home run streak adds just another milestone in a season in which
multiple deep ball records have been shattered. Pete Alonso just snapped the
NL rookie home run record earlier this week with his 40th home run. At least 17
players have homered more than 30 times. And the September stretch will only be
amplified by a must-watch home run leaders race.

After going 0-for-12 with five strikeouts during a three-game series the game
prior against the Dodgers, Freeman homered twice Tuesday and drove in four runs
to help carry to Braves to a 5-1 win over the Marlins. Rizzo went 3-for-3 and
scored three times in his first multi-homer game this season to lift Chicago
to a 5-3 win over the Giants.

On Monday, Seattle Mariners catcher Tom Murphy blasted two home runs to extend
the streak to 36. He followed it up with a tiebreaking home run on Tuesday to
lift the Mariners over the Rays 7-4.
There have been 346 individual multi-homer games in 2019, which ranks third-
most all-time in a single season behind 1999 (362) and 2017 (396).
