Vargas both exited Arizona's walk-off 3-2 victory Thursday night at Chase
Field after a collision at first base in the top of the fifth inning.

鳳凰城訊──道奇三壘手 Max Muncy 與響尾蛇一壘手 Ildemaro Vargas ，在週四晚間
於 Chase Field 舉行、亞利桑那以 3 比 2 再見勝出的比賽中，因五局上半於一壘發生
正面碰撞，雙雙提前退場。


Muncy said that he passed concussion protocol, and while his head got “got
banged up a little bit,” he feels all right. He will not play on Friday.
Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said Vargas had X-rays taken of his thigh, ribs
and neck, and all were negative. Vargas was lobbying Lovullo to play Friday,
and he got his wish eventually. He was held out of the starting lineup but
was inserted on defense at second base in the eighth inning.

Muncy 表示自己已通過腦震盪檢測程序，雖然頭部「有稍微受到撞擊」，但目前感覺還好
。他將不會出戰週五比賽。

Muncy grounded a ball to first base, where Vargas was able to field it from
behind the bag. From opposite sides of the bag, Vargas and Muncy were racing
to get there when both collided head on.

Muncy 擊出一顆滾地球到一壘方向，Vargas 在壘包後方成功處理到球。之後兩人從壘包
相反方向衝向一壘，最終正面相撞。


As he was running down the line, Muncy saw that D-backs starter Ryne Nelson
was slow to get off the mound and that Vargas had drifted into foul
territory. Muncy instinctively moved into the inside of the bag in an effort
to avoid him, but Vargas also moved in that direction, and neither player had
time to change his path.

在沿著一壘線衝刺時，Muncy 注意到響尾蛇先發投手 Ryne Nelson 離開投手丘補位的速
度較慢，而 Vargas 則已偏向界外區。Muncy 本能地往壘包內側移動，試圖避開對方，
但 Vargas 也朝同一方向移動，兩人都來不及改變路線。


“It felt like neither of us knew which direction we were going to go, and
then we both went the wrong direction," Muncy said. "And yeah, bang.”

Muncy 說：「感覺我們兩個都不知道該往哪個方向閃，結果最後我們又剛好都往錯
的方向移動。」
「然後，砰的一聲，就撞上了。」


Said Vargas via translator Alex Arpiza, “I might have thought, perhaps for a
second, that it was a foul ball. I'm just trying to make the play. I love
Nelson. I'm just trying to play hard. I'm just trying to do everything I can
for him.”

Vargas 透過翻譯 Alex Arpiza 表示：
「我可能有那麼一瞬間以為那是界外球。」
「我只是想完成那個守備。我很喜歡 Nelson，我只是想拼命替他守下來，盡我所能幫助
他。」


Muncy beat Vargas to the bag for a base hit, but both were down for several
minutes as their respective training staffs checked on them. They were able
to stand under their own power, but both came out of the game.

最終 Muncy 先踩上一壘形成安打，但兩人都倒地數分鐘，由各自球隊的防護員進場檢查
。雖然兩人最後都能自行站起來，但仍雙雙退場接受後續檢查。


Immediately after the collision, Muncy experienced some shortness of breath,
but he felt better once that subsided. Once he had collected himself, his
biggest concern was for Vargas.

碰撞發生後，Muncy 一度出現呼吸急促的狀況，但在症狀緩解後感覺好多了。而當他稍微
恢復鎮定後，最擔心的其實是 Vargas 的狀況。


“When I looked at the replay, it looked like we both kind of did the same
thing, where we both jumped to almost de-weight ourselves and avoid it.
Unfortunately, we did not avoid it,” Muncy said. “Most importantly … I
hope he's doing all right. I definitely did not mean to run into him.”

「我回看重播時，感覺我們兩個做了幾乎一樣的動作──都跳了一下，想讓自己減少衝擊
並試圖避開對方。」
「但很不幸地，我們沒有避開。」

「最重要的是……我希望他沒事。我絕對不是故意撞上他的。」


Muncy was replaced by pinch-runner Santiago Espinal, who also took over at
third base, and Vargas was replaced at first base by Pavin Smith.

Muncy 退場後由代跑 Santiago Espinal 接替，之後也繼續鎮守三壘；而 Vargas 則由
Pavin Smith 接替守一壘。


It was Nelson who appeared to feel the worst in the Arizona clubhouse
postgame, blaming himself for the play because he failed to cover first. Had
he done that, he said, none of this would have happened, and he rushed up to
the clubhouse as soon as the inning was over to check on Vargas.

賽後在亞利桑那休息室裡，看起來情緒最難受的人反而是 Nelson。他將責任歸咎於自己
，認為是因為自己沒有及時補位一壘，才導致這次意外。

他表示，如果自己有完成補位，「這一切根本不會發生」。因此半局結束後，他立刻衝回
休息室確認 Vargas 的狀況。


When he was asked about his outstanding seven innings of pitching, Nelson
pivoted quickly to the Vargas-Muncy collision.

當媒體詢問 Nelson 那場精彩的七局投球表現時，他很快便把話題轉回 Vargas 與
Muncy 的碰撞事件。


“I failed to do my job in a big spot, which ended up with Vargy getting
taken out of the game, so I'm pretty disappointed in myself for that,”
Nelson said. “I try to take pride in doing the little things right and
fielding my position, covering first base, and watching a teammate and a
friend get taken out of the game like that, it was very disappointing. And
knowing that I could have done something to make that not happen doesn't feel
good.”

Nelson 說：「我在關鍵時刻沒有完成自己的工作，結果導致 Vargy 被迫退場，因此我對
自己非常失望。」

「我一直很重視把那些小細節做好，包括處理自己位置上的守備、補位一壘等等。而看到
一位隊友、也是朋友，因為這樣離開比賽，真的讓人很難受。」

「尤其知道其實我本來可以做點什麼來避免這件事發生，那種感覺真的不好受。」
