The Angels are cleaning house on the pitching end of their coaching staff. ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports that the Halos have fired pitching coach Mike Maddux, assistant pitching coach Darryl Scott and bullpen coach Dom Chiti. The team announced the three dismissals shortly after the initial report. Double-A pitching coach Tim Leveque and assistant pitching coordinator Michael Wuertz will step into the roles of interim pitching coach and interim bullpen coach, respectively, according to the team. Interim GM
John Mozeliak offered the following statement:
“After spending time discussing with [manager Kurt Suzuki] where we are as a coaching staff and where we want to go in the future, we felt it was best to make a change. With seven weeks remaining, we plan to use this time to evaluate what additional steps are needed to elevate our entire pitching program and best position us for success moving forward.”
While the Angels have made some strides as a staff this year, the overall results haven’t been great. Reid Detmers and José Soriano have enjoyed strong seasons under this group, and since-traded relievers like Chase Silseth and Ryan Zeferjahn have had breakout performances. Even with those high notes, however, the Angels have MLB’s seventh-worst ERA (4.53) and the game’s worst walk rate (11.1%). Some of that is simply due to the personnel with which they were given to work. Even the best coaches in
the world can’t coax strong performances when presented with lackluster talent, and Anaheim’s pitching staff (particularly the bullpen) leaned far too heavily on a thin farm system and journeymen veterans who are nearing the end of their MLB careers.
Maddux joined the Angels on a one-year deal following the 2025 season. He’d been with the division-rival Rangers, who granted the Angels permission to speak to Maddux even as Texas simultaneously made an effort to retain him — either in his existing pitching coach role or a new role within the organization. Clearly, they weren’t able to reach a deal and Maddux headed west to Anaheim.

天使開除投手教練Mike Maddux，另外也把助理和牛棚教練也都一起開除，今年天使投手團隊ERA4.51，全大聯盟倒數第七差，雖然有比去年好一點，但保送全大聯盟最差，球季還沒結束被開除。
尤其Mike Maddux去年待在條子，投手團隊ERA全大聯盟最好，條子去年球季結束原本要留Mike Maddux，但硬是被天使隊挖腳過去，不知道要不要再回去條子。
