NEW YORK – Ever since the Aug. 3 MLB Trade Deadline came and went, the Mets
have played well, going 10-4 entering Wednesday’s action against the Padres.

紐約──自從 8 月 3 日 MLB 交易截止日結束後，大都會的表現一直相當出色，在週三迎

The results have pleased owner Steve Cohen. He enjoys watching younger
players like Carson Benge and A.J. Ewing, two rookies who have brought a
spark to a team that has struggled for most of the season. The recent results
have made Cohen optimistic that 2027 will be a different story.

“It’s fun to see some of these younger players come up,” Cohen said. “
They have worked hard in their careers and started to demonstrate that they
are pretty good at what they do, too. It’s fun for the fans. Winning is
better than losing. It’s creating a little excitement and, hopefully, it
will carry through the end of the year and it will give us good feelings for
next year.”

Cohen reiterated he is committed to David Stearns, the team’s president of
baseball operations, turning the Mets into a winning franchise next year.
Cohen acknowledged the front office has made mistakes.

To the owner, Stearns took “too much risk” with all the changes that were
made before the season started. The Mets hired a new coaching staff for
then-manager Carlos Mendoza, traded Brandon Nimmo to the Rangers for second
baseman Marcus Semien and let Pete Alonso become a free agent and sign with
the Orioles. Some of the players Stearns added to the roster – Semien, Jorge
Polanco and Devin Williams – have struggled or gotten injured.

在這位球團老闆看來，Stearns 在球季開始前進行的諸多變動中，「承擔了太多風險」。
大都會為當時的總教練 Carlos Mendoza 聘請了新的教練團，將 Brandon Nimmo 交易至遊
騎兵，換來二壘手 Marcus Semien；同時也讓 Pete Alonso 成為自由球員，最後與金鶯簽
約。Stearns 補進陣容的一些球員──Semien、Jorge Polanco 和 Devin Williams──不
是陷入低潮，就是遭遇傷勢。


“David is smart. He knows what he is doing. He is very adaptable. He has
learned from mistakes. That’s what I want to eliminate,” Cohen said. “
There was too much risk when you think about all the changes that were made.
Whenever there are significant changes, sometimes, it takes a while to
integrate. Those are the things that I’m looking at and where we could be
better.

「David 很聰明。他知道自己在做什麼。他的適應能力非常強。他也從錯誤中學習。這正
是我希望消除的問題，」Cohen 說。「當你把所有做出的變動放在一起考量時，確實存在
太多風險。每當出現重大變動時，有時候都需要一段時間才能整合完成。這些就是我目前
正在檢視的事情，也是我們可以做得更好的地方。」


“When you add new players, a coaching staff and adding players with an
injured history and you add risk upon risk … it doesn’t mean it has to turn
out bad; it just means you have dispersions of results and maybe the
possibility of an undesirable result. It’s more of a possibility because of
the risk you are taking.… I look at it as a whole. When I look at it as a
whole, I see individual decisions that make perfect sense. But when you add
it all up, then you get into a different realm of, did he take too much risk?
It’s looking at it from a top/down perspective as opposed to an individual
decision.”

「當你加入新的球員、新的教練團，再加上引進過去有傷病紀錄的球員，等於是一個風險
接著另一個風險……這並不代表結果一定會很糟；它只是意味著結果可能會出現更大的分
散程度，也可能出現不理想結果的可能性。因為你承擔了這些風險，所以那種結果發生的
可能性也更高……我會把所有事情視為一個整體。當我從整體來看時，我看到的是一個個
單獨看來都完全合理的決策。但當你把所有決策加總起來，就會進入另一個層次：他是不
是承擔了太多風險？這是從由上而下的整體角度（top/down perspective）來看，而不是
只檢視單一決策。」
