e two middle infield positions and has played a decent amount of third base as w
ell, with strong reviews for his glovework on the whole.

His offense has been less consistent. In 2023, splitting his time between High-A
and Double-A, he had a 9.7% walk rate, 18.7% strikeout rate, .278/.352/.456 lin
e and 116 wRC+. But over the past two seasons, he has a combined .217/.319/.312
line and a wRC+ of 81.
他的打擊表現則較不穩定。2023 年在高階 1A 與 2A 時，他的保送率為 9.7%、三振率 18.

Cheng is still fairly young and has an option remaining. His ability to cover sh
ortstop makes him an intriguing depth piece, even if his offense stays a bit lig
ht. Any kind of step forward with the bat is a potential bonus.
Cheng 仍然算年輕，且還保有一個下放選項。他能夠守游擊，使他成為一個頗具吸引力的深
度人選，即使打擊火力偏弱也仍有價值；只要球棒能有任何進步，都是額外的加分。
It might seem odd for a team to claim a player and then quickly cut him but this
kind of sequence is becoming more common. The team is usually hoping the player
clears waivers the next time, so that he can be kept without using a roster spo
t. The Mets themselves already did this once this winter, claiming Ji Hwan Bae a
nd later outrighting him to the minors. Cheng doesn’t have a previous career ou
tright nor does he have three years of service time, so he wouldn’t have the ri
ght to elect free agency if he were outrighted.
球隊先撿走一名球員、接著又很快將他釋出，看起來或許有些奇怪，但這種操作其實越來越
常見。球隊通常是希望該名球員之後能通過讓渡名單，這樣就能在不佔用 40 人名單名額的
情況下留下他。大都會今年冬天就曾這麼做過一次，先認領了 Ji-Hwan Bae，之後再將他直
接下放到小聯盟。Cheng 過去職業生涯中尚未被直接下放過，且也沒有滿三年的大聯盟服務
年資，因此若被直接下放，他並沒有選擇成為自由球員的權利。
With Cheng, they will have a week of DFA limbo to work with. The waiver process
takes 48 hours, so they could hold him for five days and field trade interest. T
hey could also put him on the wire sooner than that if they so choose.
對於 Cheng 而言，球隊將有大約一週的 DFA（指定讓渡）緩衝期可以運作。讓渡程序需時
48 小時，因此球隊可以先保留他約五天，評估是否有交易上的興趣；當然，也可以選擇更
早將他放上讓渡名單。
