http://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2015/05/ under-21s-report--norwich-city-2-chelsea-2.html Under-21s report: Norwich City 2 Chelsea 2 Wed 20 May 2015 Our Under-21s ended the season with an away draw at Carrow Road and claimed third place in the Under-21 Premier League as a result. Tammy Abraham brought his goalscoring tally to 41 for the season, level with Dominic Solanke, after a clever finish early on, before Charly Musonda doubled the advantage eight minutes before half-time with a wonderful individual effort. Jacob Murphy replied swiftly as the hosts reduced the deficit before the interval. They grabbed the leveller midway through the second half after Jake Clarke-Salter had been sent off for two bookings. == Team news == Adi Viveash made five changes for his team's final game of the campaign, with Mitchell Beeney, Fankaty Dabo, Kyle Scott, Izzy Brown and Clarke-Salter all returning to the side. Dabo and Clarke-Salter joined Dion Conroy and Ola Aina in a back four protecting Beeney in goal, while Scott partnered captain Jordan Houghton at the base of midfield. Charly Musonda, Kasey Palmer and recent first-team debutant Brown provided the support for central striker Abraham. == First half == It was a lively start in overcast Norfolk and the young Blues could have been ahead with just 60 seconds on the clock as Musonda's quick thinking fashioned an opening for Houghton. The midfielder's low drive whistled narrowly beyond the far post. Four minutes later, Chelsea were in front and the goal came courtesy of their 17-year-old striker. Abraham latched on to a clever forward pass from Brown and clipped the ball over the onrushing Remi Matthews. The Canaries looked for an immediate response and came close to a leveller within a minute as Murphy's effort from 20 yards thumped against the post, and Dabo had to remain alert to read the danger in heading clear off the line after Murphy had teed up Carlton Morris from close range. Matthews saved well from Palmer after good work from the midfielder down the left before Beeney produced two impressive saves to keep his side's advantage intact. First, he flew to his right to push Cameron King's fierce effort over the bar, before diving to the opposite side moments later to deny Murphy. Those proved to be crucial interventions as the Blues doubled the lead after 39 minutes through Musonda. The lively Belgian danced past two defenders before finding the bottom far corner with an arrowing low drive for his eighth goal of the campaign. Norwich continued to push forward in the final minutes of the half and were rewarded with the game's third goal. Murphy's strike from the corner of the 18-yard box flew past Beeney and into the top corner. == Second half == It was a quieter start to the second period with Brown firing over and then forcing a good save from Matthews following a free-kick forward to the right channel. Abraham dragged a left-footed effort wide following excellent work from Musonda but the game swung in favour of the hosts after 67 minutes. Clarke-Salter was dismissed after two bookings in quick succession, the second a fairly innocuous collision with the winger on the right flank. From the resulting free-kick, Grant pulled the ball back cleverly for the lurking Murphy and the forward's precise finish nestled inside the far post for the equaliser. Both sides had opportunities to claim a late winner; Murphy scuffed a chance at the back post to grab his hat-trick before Solanke headed wide and then Matthews tipped Musonda's dangerous free-kick over. The game ended in dramatic circumstances in added time as Matthews saved from Abraham at point-blank range and substitute Ruben Sammut struck the rebound wide, before Beeney made three crucial stops and Charlie Colkett hooked the ball off the line to ensure the points were shared. That concludes competitive Academy football for 2014/15, following a season that has seen FA Youth Cup and UEFA Youth League successes, plus first team debuts for Andreas Christensen, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Izzy Brown and Dominic Solanke. The Academy will mark their successful campaign by joining the first team celebrations with their own bus at Monday's victory parade.
