https://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2016/09/ pl2-report--chelsea-v-tottenham.html PL2 report: Chelsea 3 Tottenham 1 Fri 9 Sep 2016 Our development squad were in impressive form as they beat Tottenham at Stamford Bridge this evening (Friday). With Antonio Conte watching on from the stands in SW6, goals after the break from Jay Dasilva, Isaac Christie-Davies and Fikayo Tomori handed the Blues three points. Adi Viveash made four changes from the starting side that drew 1-1 at Manchester United before the international break. Charlie Colkett made a deadline-day season-long loan switch to Bristol Rovers while Dominic Solanke missed out with an injury sustained in the north-west. Jake Clarke-Salter, Jacob Maddox, Charlie Wakefield and Isaac Christie-Davies came into the side. Like Colkett, Clarke-Salter also completed a loan move to Rovers last month but it was agreed he could remain at his parent club to build his fitness as he recovers from a long-term layoff. The 18-year-old joined Trevoh Chalobah, Tomori and captain Dasilva in a back four protecting Bradley Collins, the goalkeeper. Kyle Scott partnered Josimar Quintero in central midfield, with Jacob Maddox, Mason Mount and Christie-Davies providing the attacking support for striker Charlie Wakefield. Mount had enjoyed a productive period away on international duty, bagging a brace for England's Under-18 side, and the midfielder had the first effort at goal in this derby. A free-kick presented an early opportunity to test Spurs stopper Tom Glover but Mount's bouncing strike flew narrowly wide. The tone had been set in those opening minutes and our dominance continued as the theme throughout the half. Christian Maghoma denied the lively Mount with a well-timed sliding challenge before Glover saved comfortably down low from Dasilva's right-foot shot. Tottenham had won two of their opening three games in the revamped Premier League 2 but the side managed by Ugo Ehiogu, their former defender, struggled to get a foothold in the game in the first half. Mount hit another set-piece that just missed the target again before Glover made a first save of note as the interval approached, scampering across goal to push Christie-Davies's drive away from danger. After a frustrating first period in front of goal, Viveash's side netted twice in seven minutes shortly after the restart to place themselves into a deservedly commanding position in the game. Ike Ugbo was introduced in place of Maddox and his impact was immediate as Glover was forced to produce a flying save to push his fierce strike behind. However, there was little the Spurs keeper could do to prevent the Blues striking ahead moments later. Maghoma was guilty of a clumsy foul on the spinning Quintero in the box and Dasilva stepped up to assume penalty-taking duties, placing the ball into the bottom left corner. Seven minutes later and it was 2-0, echoing our quick scoring from last month's 4-1 win over Liverpool. Scott led a quick counter-attack forward, exchanging passes with Ugbo before forcing a save from Glover. The loose ball spun high into the air and Christie-Davies was on hand like all good attacking midfielders to nod in the rebound. Spurs made changes but the Blues continued to pour forward as they had all evening, albeit with more of a cutting edge than before the break. Mount fired over the bar before Tomori added a third goal with 71 minutes on the clock. The overlapping defender, who made his first team debut on this ground back in May, received a cutback from Mount and placed a low shot into the bottom far corner. Substitute Ryan Loft went close to reducing the deficit down the other end, steering a shot a foot beyond the far post, before Shayon Harrison pulled a goal back with the last kick of the game. Marcus Edwards was pulled back by Dasilva and the striker found the back of the net from the resulting penalty. Yet this was Chelsea's night as Viveash's boys continued their unbeaten start to the season. The development squad return to action with their EFL Checkatrade Trophy debut next Tuesday 13 September away at Swindon Town. Before then, our youth team travel to Norwich City tomorrow morning (Saturday), kick-off 11am. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- https://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2016/09/ pl2-reaction--working-well.html PL2 reaction: Working well Sat 10 Sep 2016 Our development squad recorded a Stamford Bridge victory last night (Friday) to stretch their unbeaten start to the season to four matches. Adi Viveash's side were impressive against Tottenham in the revamped Premier League 2, winning courtesy of goals from Jay Dasilva, Isaac Christie-Davies and Fikayo Tomori. After the game, Viveash told the official Chelsea website he was delighted with a near-perfect performance. 'It was a top-class display,' reflected the manager. 'In the first half, we were spot-on tactically apart from one little problem that developed when their no.4 in midfield started to get free. As Kyle Scott went to press him, it left Josimar Quintero one-versus-two so that was a problem for the players to solve. 'The challenge for young players is whether they can tactically affect the game on the pitch and change things based on what's happening. In the second half, they worked it out; we let their centre-halves have the ball, blocked them inside, then pressed and won it back. That was even more pleasing to me than the way they played because it shows the players are learning from the work we do with them every day.' Despite Spurs stealing a clean sheet from his young charges with the final kick of the game, Viveash was more pleased with the creativity of his players in front of goal. They have scored in each of their four opening games and now have nine goals to their name so far this campaign. 'We made the pitch big, stretched Tottenham's three narrow no.10s and showed a lot of power. The players looked very strong physically and that was pleasing on the back of the internationals. The two goals from open play were fantastic team moves; I'm really pleased for Isaac to arrive in the box and score like that, and Fikayo's goal comes from brilliant play and a great finish. 'We've been open and talked about needing a bit more invention in the final third. We deserved to win because we were able to produce that invention at key times to score some great goals.'
