Thomas Tuchel is pushing for Chelsea to sign defender Kalidou Koulibaly
from Napoli. The Blues manager is driving interest in signing the
31-year-old from the Italan club - who value the defender at ￡33million.
Any deal at that price would break the Premier League record fee for a
player over the age of 30.

Not the first time Chelsea have considered Koulibaly. Always on the list
of potential centre-backs but Napoli have previously fended off interest
saying they don't want to sell. Koulibaly was probably best defender in
Serie A last season and would be a magnificent signing.
Still some work to be done to finalise the deal. One of the reasons for
this is Luciano Spalletti has made it very clear to the Napoli board he
wants to keep Koulibaly. His reaction to a sale will be interesting.
Napoli board have always been divided on whether to sell or not.
Koulibaly is just a very complete defender. He's technical and composed on
the ball and in his decision making plus offers strong leadership. He
would be a superb addition to Chelsea and the Premier League.

As with the Sterling and Ake (still pending fee agreement) moves,
Koulibaly makes a lot of sense for Chelsea. Senegal and Napoli captain so
brings leadership/experience and already has a playing relationship with
Edouard Mendy.
While the summer has in many ways felt chaotic at Chelsea, there is also
clear strategy/planning behind their firmest moves in transfer market so
far. I'm gussing Mendy will have also provided some character insights for
the club on Koulibaly

There's a clear pattern emerging in the way Chelsea are negotiating for
players. Todd Boehly has adapted well to his interim sporting role and is
intent on getting deals done fast and when possible face-to-face. A number
of clubs & agents have praised this approach as refreshing.
Not every deal will come off, but Leeds were extremely impressed by how
the Raphinha proposal was handled. "No games, no ego..." was how one
source at Manchester City described the Sterling negotiations, and Boehly
has also been key in persuading Napoli to sell Koulibaly.

Obviously over time the approach will change. Recruitment model could move
to a similar one to Liverpool (Edwards, Mitchell, Maxwell in consideration
for sporting director). But Boehly, due to circumstance and ambition, is
having to be hands on currently and it's working.
Fans rightly judge windows on incomings and a lack of activity can be
frustrating. But a few weeks in and I think it's suddenly apparent
progress is being made and Chelsea are now shaping up to have a strong
window.

And, in my view anyway, it's actually quite refreshing to see a minority
owner, chairman and sporting director be so proactive (and I would say
no-nonsense) at so many levels less than two months in. Wasn't an easy
club or role(s) to walk into given the sanctions and sale saga...
Chelsea were always likely to be slower than some rivals in the early part
of the window due to all the changes and constraints. And it's a balance
between just getting through this window and trying to plan long-term with
a new strategy.

Kalidou Koulibaly will join Chelsea after Napoli accepted a ￡33 million
(€40m) offer. Big fee for a 31-year-old but CFC get a complete and
technically-gifted defender. An incredible signing and a player Tuchel has
wanted for some time. Napoli finally willing to sell.
Deal happened very fast in the end, largely because Napoli President
Aurelio De Laurentiis was informed Koulibaly wanted a fresh challenge. De
Laurentiis had hoped Koulibaly would renew and was totally against a sale
to Juventus. Chelsea took advantage of that.
But Chelsea's interest in Koulibaly isn't new. Always on the list and
finally Napoli prepared to do business. Medical due in London. Nathan Ake
also getting closer. Told an agreed fee with MCFC is not far off.

My understanding with Levi Colwill is there is no shortage of interest.
Southampton and Leicester both rate the 19-year-old. Colwill has not asked
for a permanent move. He seeks clarity, though, of his long-term role and
future at Chelsea. It's similar to Armando Broja.
The challenge a lot of big clubs have is in providing clear pathways to
young talent. From Colwill's perspective, he did all he could at
Huddersfield to show he's developing into a Premier League centre-back.
But CFC also need instant and proven defenders capable of UCL level.

Fans will naturally say, 'Why can't we have both?' and hope CFC just loan
Colwill. That's ideal for club. But footballers are human and not all of
them want to keep being loaned and be back in same position in a year. A
new manager, dressing room, house etc. can take its toll.
With Colwill, he's not asked to leave just yet. But with three defensive
incomings almost certain, he wants to understand whether he has a role
(not just this season) before deciding. Told no final decision and he's by

Chelsea will get a healthy fee for Colwill if they do sell, just like when
Marc Guehi went to Palace. But I understand there is further internal and
manager-to-player discussion needed before any decision will be taken.
Broja is more of a challenge since Albanian is open to leaving if he isn't
given more 'instant' game time at CFC. Chelsea always wanted to assess in
pre-season (and are now doing that). But he's had two loans, and scored
six EPL goals, plus there's a high level of interest.

Chelsea will announce the arrival of Tom Glick as the club's new chief
executive and he will take charge of all non-football operations.
Chelsea are also still talking to candidates over the director of football

Athletic understands. Glick, a former executive at Manchester City, will
take care of the business affairs at Chelsea.
Glick has previously worked at New York City FC and the City Football
Group, and was chief executive at Derby County in the 2000s. He was the
president of the NFL franchise the Carolina Panthers until February of

Chelsea are about to sign Zak Sturge, who said his farewells to Brighton
tonight. The left-back was close to signing at the end of the January
transfer window; it didn't get done then, it should happen now.
Sturge is an England U18 international who spent the last three years at
Brighton after joining from grass roots.
Like I said at the end of last season and a coupla times since, summer
recruitment in the Dev Squad was a big priority; they've added Eddie Beach
plus January signing Mason Burstow, they have a handful of interesting
trialists, and now look set to bring another good player in.

Chelsea have ended interest in Nathan Ake after advanced talks collapsed.
CFC hoped package of close to ￡45m would be enough. But clubs started
further apart in valuation than with Raheem Sterling. In the end MCFC held
out for ￡50m. Chelsea did agree personal terms with Ake.
Chelsea were genuinely confident they could get the price down and agree a
deal. But City also intent on finding a replacement before they sold and
potentially softened on finances (or at least the structure of the deal).
Chelsea not prepared to meet valuation or wait any longer.
Chelsea frustrated, but working on Presnel Kimpembe, who Thomas Tuchel has
already had a long phone call with. PSG open to a sale but told a lot may
come down to convincing Kimpembe, who loves Paris. Jules Kounde not out
question either. CFC haven't walked away from that one.

Gabriel Slonina's agent Jaime Garcia has informed Chicago Fire that they
reached an agreement on personal terms with Chelsea. CFC will submit
official bid and send paperworks, after verbal agreement with Chicago: 10m

Serge Gnabry signs new Bayern deal until June 2027. Full agreement now in
place as expected, despite strong interest from Chelsea. Extending with
Bayern has always been player's priority, very good relationship with his
agents after Mane deal
June 2026*, four year deal. It will be signed next week - Gnabry has
