Everton have turned down a ￡40m offer from Chelsea for England Under-21
forward Anthony Gordon. It is understood Chelsea are likely to come back
with a higher offer in a bid to tempt Everton to sell the homegrown
21-year-old.

Well-placed sources have told BBC Sport a deal could be done in the coming
days as personal terms will not be an issue. Gordon, 21, made his Everton
debut in January 2020 and signed a five-year contract in September 2020.

Everton value Anthony Gordon at ￡50m and were clear with Spurs and
Newcastle that they wouldn't entertain a sale unless that valuation was
met. CFC's ￡40m bid has been rejected. Chelsea considering their next
move.

Everton are keen on Armando Broja but told it's unlikely he'll be offered
as part of any permanent deal at this stage. CFC reluctant to sell, and
even if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang arrives would prefer to loan him out.
Broja still undecided if he's prepared to go on loan again.

Lampard also really likes Billy Gilmour but has just signed Amadou Onana
and still hoping for Idrissa Gueye. Michy Batshuayi is another name EFC
may be open to if a swap-deal occurs.

Lampard doesn't currently want to enter the race (along with Celtic) for
Ross Barkley despite considering him earlier in the window. This has been
the case for a number of weeks now, even before Everton brought in other

Chelsea did everything in their power to try and get Michael Edwards. Not
just a case of being told he wanted a break. Multiple meetings took place.
Edwards very impressed by the project and even made an incredible job
offer. Timing not right but CFC threw everything at him.

First meaningful contact with Edwards was soon after Clearlake-Boehly took
over in June. Talks continued right up until early August. As previously
reported, CFC want to appoint a sporting director soon after the window to
be ready for January. Paul Mitchell remains keen.

West Ham's poor start to the new campaign has heightened the pressure on
them to increase the size of their small squad. Moyes wants a left-back to
compete with Aaron Cresswell and is interested in Emerson, who is up for
sale at Chelsea.

Emerson, who has attracted interest from Atalanta and Forest, has had his
path into the starting XI blocked by Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella. The
Italy international spent last season on loan at Lyon.

Chelsea have made it clear that they do not want Emerson, who joined them
from Roma in 2018, to leave on loan again. The club's new owners are keen
to bring in transfer fees and get unwanted players off their books after

Barcelona expected to start Frenkie de Jong against Real Sociedad on
Sunday. He remains Chelsea's midfield priority. Not true Thomas Tuchel
cooled interest last week. CFC & MUFC waiting to see if a move is
possible. FDJ still clear he wants to stay on current terms.

In a meeting last week, it was reiterated (pretty bullishly) to Barcelona
that FDJ won't take a pay cut. Told it was also added that any further

A lot still depends on Barcelona's likelihood of signing Bernardo Silva.
MCFC will hold out for a big fee. ￡45-50m Barca are briefing is way off.
Silva wants the move but won't force an exit. Barcelona are going to have
to find funds hence why FDJ fee could yet prove important.

As previously reported, the key to an FDJ exit is in Barca 'forcing' him
out. He has never been told to his face by Barca that they want him to
leave. Xavi is also unsure letting him go is a good idea.

Wesley Fofana has told Leicester he wants to be allowed to join Chelsea,
who are weighing up whether to make the 21-year-old the most expensive
defender in the world. Leicester, who have rejected two bids from Chelsea,
are holding out for more than ￡80m and are determined not to lose him
during the current window.

One consideration for Chelsea is whether Fofana is fully up to speed after
returning from a broken leg. They are aware it could take at least ￡85m
to convince Leicester to sell. Sources have indicated Chelsea will
eventually meet Leicester's asking price.

Chelsea are also looking for a striker and are planning to bid for
Barcelona's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this week. Chelsea have turned down
West Ham's opening offer of ￡13m for Emerson Palmieri. They want ￡15m
for the Italy left-back.

￡80-85m may price him out the market. Chelsea in direct talks after back
and forth using intermediaries. Told once again structure of any deal will
be as important as the number itself.

As previously reported, Fofana told Leicester (and Brendan Rodgers to his
face) after the second bid was rejected that he thought the offer was fair
and wanted to leave. But any 'agreement' to let him go for a reasonable
offer is based on 2023.

LCFC still holding out for a world-record fee for a defender. CFC hoping
for under ￡80m with a strong structure. Leicester remain reluctant to

Manchester United have sounded out Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic over a
possible loan transfer. Pulisic is frustrated by his lack of minutes under
Tuchel and is considering leaving Chelsea. United are also said to be

Chelsea are open to letting Christian Pulisic leave on loan. Told Gregg
Berhalter has also advised him to get regular game time. Pulisic is an
automatic starter for USMNT but told Berhalter wants him playing more
regularly. As @AndyMitten reports, MUFC interested. NUFC, too.

But as reported back in June, I am still told Pulisic is tempted by Serie
A should the option present itself. Juventus have expressed some interest
but it remains to be seen whether they advance it. Pulisic has spoken to

LCFC have insisted he is not for sale, but after yesterday their stance
could soften if Chelsea try again. Fofana wants out and it is obvious
Rodgers needs funds and new signings to lift a stale squad.
