A Lancaster man accused of having sexual encounters with a young girl in a
Cheektowaga church has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge, town police
announced Thursday.
Caleb Sexton, 28, pleaded guilty Sept. 9 in Erie County Court to a felony
count of third-degree criminal sexual act. He will have to register as a sex
offender, and faces up to four years in prison when he appears for sentencing
Nov. 24 before Erie County Judge Kenneth Case.
Arrested in September 2014, Sexton originally was charged with second-degree
criminal sexual act, second-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare
of a child.
He was accused of having oral sexual contact with a 13-year-old girl he had
met in 2012 through Hedstrom Baptist Church, where his father is pastor.
Sexton also coached soccer and basketball for West Seneca Christian School.
Sexton was 26 at the time of those encounters, which police said occurred in
a secluded area of the Losson Road church during 2013.
Police said their investigation, led by Detectives Michael Hockwater and
Terence Griffin, also revealed that Sexton used the Internet to engage the
victim in conversations of a sexual nature and sent her pictures of his
genitals, while asking her to reciprocate.
