Abbeville A Henry County pastor charged with engaging in sex acts with an
underage female member of his congregation will undergo psychiatric
examination, according to a court order.
Camerius Mills, 29, of was arrested last month on three counts of traveling
to meet a child for an unlawful sex act, three counts of second-degree rape
and a single count of second-degree sodomy. All charges are felonies.
Appointed defense attorney Cada Carter filed a motion Monday seeking to have
Mills mentally evaluated. During a November 5 hearing before Henry County
District Judge Derek Peterson, Mills appeared confused and disoriented.
Mills seemingly confessed to the crimes when asked by media members if he had
something to say. Sheriff Will Maddox said Mills also told investigators he
committed the sex crimes with a 14-year old girl.
Mills was pastor at St. Luke’s Baptist Church located northeast of Abbeville
though he lived in Edison, Georgia.
Maddox said federal charges could be filed against Mills because some of the
crimes occurred on property managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
