So you're correct! My brother is the subject.
Now, we're going to learn about the third person. If there's a third person, t
here must also be a first person and a second person. Listen carefully!
The first person is I, which means「我」.
The second person is you, which means「你」.
And examples of the third person are he, she, and it.
He is used for a male person, she is used for a female person, and it is often
used for a thing or an animal when we don't specify its sex.

Let me give you a quick question. If I point to a boy and want to say「他」, w
hich word should I use: he, she, or it?

We know that the dog is male, so you're right! We can use he for a male dog. T

Now, let's learn what happens to a verb when the subject is he, she, or it.
In the simple present tense, when the subject is he, she, or it, we usually ad
d -s or -es to the verb.
For example:
He takes a vacation.
The original verb is take, and we add -s, so it becomes takes.
Sometimes, we add -es instead. For example, look at the verb go:
She goes to the library every day.
We say goes, not gos.

We can put these verb changes into four groups.
First, for most verbs, we simply add -s:
eat → eats
play → plays
Second, when a verb ends in -s, -x, -z, -ch, or -sh, we usually add -es:
wash → washes
Third, when a verb ends in a consonant + y, we change the y to i and add -es:
study → studies
Finally, there are some special forms you need to remember:

go → goes
do → does

這裡甚至有一個非常適合下一次測學生的陷阱：
My brother plays basketball.
學生如果只背：
he / she / it → +s
看到 my brother 可能就不知道要加 s。
所以你真正希望學生建立的是：
一個第三者／東西作主詞 → 第三人稱單數 → 動詞變化
而不是只認三個單字 he / she / it。
② 「it = 不是人類」不要這樣教
這點你後來處理我的「公狗」問題處理得不錯。
如果學生一開始學成：
人 → he/she
不是人 → it
之後會遇到很多例外。
對初學小朋友，你可以簡化成：
he → 男性
she → 女性
it → 通常用於事物，或性別不重要／不知道的動物
知道寵物性別時，使用 he / she 很自然。
③ -s / -es 的分類再精確一點
你今天分成四類的思路很好，非常適合小學生整理規則。
但可以調整成：
A. 一般情況 → +s
play → plays
eat → eats
B. 某些字尾 → +es
watch → watches
wash → washes
fix → fixes
go → goes
do → does
C. 子音 + y → y 改 ies
study → studies
try → tries
但是這裡一定要小心：
play → plays
不能變成 plaies。
因為 play 是：
母音 a + y
只有子音 + y才變成 -ies。
D. 特殊變化
have → has
這樣比把 goes / does / has 全部放進「不規則」更準確。
下一次我們可以開始練：
少講一點 → 問一題 → 學生回答 → 再教下一點。
例如不要直接說：
watch 結尾是 ch，所以加 es。
可以寫：
play → plays
eat → eats
watch → ?
然後問：
“What do you notice?”
讓學生先猜。
最後花 2 分鐘問三題：
① Choose:

② Correct:

③ Create:

那你才有比較充分的證據知道：

但是學生的體驗會從：
老師講主詞 → 老師講三種人稱 → 老師講第三人稱單數 → 老師講動詞規則 → 學生記
變成：
看例句 → 回答 → 發現主詞 → 回答 → 發現第三人稱 → 回答 → 發現單數 → 觀察
句子 → 自己發現 +s
