First, you're right. We put doesn't before the main verb.
doesn't want is the contracted form of does not want.
Here, does is a helping verb, not makes the sentence negative, and want is the
main verb.
Now, I want you to take a guess.
In the affirmative sentence, we say:
He wants to watch films.
But in the negative sentence, we say:
He doesn't want to watch films.
The -s in wants disappeared!
Can you find where that -s went in the negative sentence?

Here's an easy way to think about it:
Think of the -s as moving to does!
We say “He likes cats,” but “He doesn't like cats.”
Once we use doesn't, we don't need the -s on like anymore.
