你的問題 我一開始看這鋸子的時候 也是有被誤導了一下 如你一開始被誤導的情況一樣
後來仔細看了你的想法 跟 教授回你的內容 以及聽讀的老外的說法後 就了解這鋸子的用
法 其實你現在應該對對這句型的掌握已經很清楚才對 但你也許會問 為何會這樣?
在此 我提供一下 我的看法 給你參考看看
首先我必須說 你那兩位英文專業的朋友應該是跟你依樣被誤導了 (就算是專業一樣有可
能被誤導 因為必竟英文不是我們的母語)
你對英文的理解能力 應該高於你的那兩位英文專業的朋友喔
這句型X is not, as someone contends, Y.
可解讀成
X並非 [如同someone所主張的Y那樣一般]
不要解讀成
X [如同someone所主張的] 必非Y
注意 ”並非” 在中文的位置
X is not , as someone contends, Y.
某人所主張的內容是Y
Y 為as someone contends的內容
as someone contends, Y 中的Y 我把它看成是同位語
也就是說
as someone contends = Y
因此
X is not, as someone contends, Y.
= Y is what someone contends, but (in my opinion, in my view) X is not Y.
所以
原句: ..the song… is not, as Davies contends, a different work …
A different work … is what Davies contends, but (in my opinion)
the song is not a different work from the one that Beatles recorded.
如此一來就能解釋此一句型了。
原句的英文斷句應該在not，你可以把句子斷在not 讀看看 你就能體會我的意思了
