[請益]句子結構問題

想請問大家有關句子結構的問題，句子如下
1. I didn't know how to do it when i was first time to ~~~
   想問一下how to do it為名詞子句，為什麼不能只有how to do ?
2. it is my understanding that ~~~~
   that ~~~是作為修飾my understanding的形容詞子句
   還是整個主句it is my understanding 附屬的名詞子句呢?
3. It is not a good idea to have a lot of cookies
   not a good idea to have a lot of cookies是主詞it的補語
   其中have a lot of cookies和not a good idea是什麼關係呢 ?

因為對名詞子句這東西不是很了解，感覺一直在打轉，感謝各位的幫忙

→ ilax: 後面比較好集中精神去聽你說，那名詞是什麼
→ tomtest: 了解，因我一直糾結在名詞子句要用if/wh~/that和主句做

→ ilax: 第一題，how to do it，it是受詞，沒有 it 就沒有受詞
推 soupbow: 該怎麼做在英文裡有兩種說法，what to do或how to do it,
→ soupbow: what已經有代名詞功能，因此不需要it;反之，how是副詞，
→ soupbow: 因此需要it作為do的受詞
