[單字] pride & protocol

1. pride oneself in / on ?
看到有老師教要用in  還有下面這句
Maria prides herself in her culinary ability and hopes to win the cook-off.
所以  in / on 都可以嗎?  以前只知道一定要用on

2. Following protocol, they diverted to Winnipeg and began to descend.
查字典  protocol當程序解釋時  是可數名詞
所以這裡是不是少了 冠詞或 s
