[文法] "a lot happens"的用法？

大家好，想請問一下

英語雜誌的單元是介紹加油站，裡頭有這麼一段話：

So today is all about gas stations.

Well, it might seem like a normal place, but a lot happens at the gas station.

Exactly.

If you have a car, then a gas station is really important for you.

不懂a lot happens的意思。是指這裡的lot是當名詞，而且可數，所以會有a lot?

而且我想說a lot這詞組合起來，不是指「很多東西」的意思嗎，

還是說要分開看，是a+lot，後面的happens才加s？

請教一下，謝謝。

→ dashihito: 超怪的，第三人稱複數不是該用they嗎？）

→ enonrick: 一標的。因為我們常看到a lot of的用法所以忘了lot 是

→ enonrick: he drank a lot -> a lot = adv
→ enonrick: a lot happens = things happen = shit happens (誤）->
→ enonrick:  a lot = noun
