[文法] where當關係副詞和副詞子句連接詞

大家好，請教一下

旋元佑文法裡有這麼一個句子（虛線內是作者的解釋）：

The virus thrives where people live in close proximity to one another.
(這種病毒滋生在人口密度高的地方。)

外加連接詞 where 構成地方副詞子句，修飾動詞 thrives 的地方。

我有個想法，先看旋元佑的句子（我把後面不影響句子文法的部分刪去）

The virus thrives where people live.

這時where是當副詞子句連接詞用，但如果在thrives後面加上in the place，變成：

The virus thrives in the place where people live.

這時where就變成關係子句的關係副詞了。

而且兩者句意完全一樣。

那麼，是不是代表只要看到where是副詞子句連接詞時，
就可以在前面自行想像一個「介系詞+the place」，轉而以關係子句的關係副詞來看待？

至於為何要這麼多此一舉，因為我不太能理解該怎麼看待副詞子句的where。
(可能是還不習慣QQ)
