推 vincentman: 1.that=so that,表目的(以便,為了…) 07/31 00:16
...question" 07/31 00:19
→ vincentman: 2.The $64000 Question是TV spinoff的同位語,with 07/31 00:22
→ vincentman: the phrase是插入句,now (which is)adjusted to the 07/31 00:23
→ vincentman: inflation, which catches on in popular speech 07/31 00:25
→ vincentman: to the extent that是到…
→ kaifrankwind: to the point that的that是表現象結果,不是目的( 07/31 01:10

that (conjunction.)
(formal) in order that something may happen or someone may do something:
Give us strength that we may stand against them.
(確實如V大所言,這裡的that=in order that=so that。

Even more popular was the 1950s television spinoff, but not to the extent
that its antecedent did.
its antecedent did the extent.

→ dunchee: -> 5 .... ("to the point where" 是另一寫法. "to the 08/02 01:26
→ dunchee: point at which" 也有,較少。"... in which"也有,更少) 08/02 01:27
→ dunchee: 2.
→ dunchee: "with the phrase...."
→ dunchee: 而"now adjusted to inflation"指的是「現在通行的」 08/02 01:28
: 08/02 01:30
→ dunchee: 前文有講到"phrase (受歡迎程度) to the extent"(意思 08/02 01:30
→ dunchee: "phrase became a catchword to the point ...."(畢竟是" 08/02 01:30
→ dunchee: (-> did) (->to the extent) 08/02 01:30
1.若用"to the point where",以文法而言,應可以還原為it became the program's
name at the point.
3.原來這個did意近於前面的became a catchword.
