[文法] and和then的疑問

大家好，想請問一下：

1.
pomelo   noun

a large citrus fruit that has thick yellow skin and that tastes similar to a
grapefruit, but sweeter

上述的解釋裡的第二個that可以刪去嗎？成為：

a large citrus fruit that has thick yellow skin and tastes similar to a
grapefruit, but sweeter

原本裡面的and是連接兩個子句，那我是否可以換個角度思考，把那個and想成是連接
一個that子句中的兩個動詞就好，而刪去第二個that？



2.then這個詞蠻奇特的，辭典裡只給副詞、形容詞的詞性（也有辭典多給一個名詞），
但實際上好像常當連接詞用？例如：

朗文
Mix the flour and butter, then add the eggs.
Start off early, then you won’t have to rush.

牛津
He drank a glass of whisky, then another and then another.

劍橋
Let me finish this job, then we'll go.
Give her the letter to read, then she'll understand.

當然，「and then」這種正規的用法也很多，不過我好奇的是沒加「and」的情況。
