以下供原po參考：
1. 可以去掉that。
2. 我贊成你連結的文章所說的。差別在於spoken English與written English對於
punctuation上的要求不同，後來又衍生出很多其他狀況。
兩者的差異，常常造成的狀況就是：（1） 唸起來很順的句子，不見得適用於寫作；
（2） 寫作上通順正確的句子，不見得唸起來很順。演講或專訪的transcript，很多句子
就是有狀況（1）的問題。
以下標記(*)的句子，用在口語、詩詞，或是引用人物直接說話內容的direct quote
上沒有問題，但是用在正式寫作上就成了很容易被忽視的問題
（註：下面第三句的 -- 是 em dash）：
(*) Mix the flour and butter, then add the eggs.
改法之一是Mix the flour and butter and then add the eggs.
(*) Start off early, then you won’t have to rush.
改法之一是Start off early and then you won't have to rush.
(*) He drank a glass of whisky, then another and then another.
改法之一是He drank a glass of whisky -- then another and then another.
(*) Let me finish this job, then we'll go.
改法之一是Let me finish this job and then we'll go.
(*) Give her the letter to read, then she'll understand.
改法之一是Give her the letter to read and then she'll understand.
