[請益] 有關分詞構劇

我在一篇blog看到，這兩句:
1.Joe was waiting for Lily.
2.Joe was reading a book.

用分詞構劇的方式組成一句變成:
Joe was waiting for Lily reading a book.

我想請問，and可以省略嗎?感覺應該要是:
Joe was waiting for Lily and reading a book.
