大家好，請問一下
在「英語常用詞疑難用法手冊」看到這樣的例句：
Some prefer their birthdays go unrecognized, not so the Bulletin.
翻譯：有些人寧願自己的生日，人家不記得、過去就算了，但本刊卻不然。（本刊的週年
紀念還是要慶祝一番的）

想問的是，這裡的so是不是副詞，代替prefer their birthdays go unrecognized？
但我不太瞭解這種用法，因為詞典在這個解釋的例句都是像這樣：
'Is he coming?’ ‘ I hope so.’
‘Did they mind?’ ‘I don't think so.’
請問有沒有哪個詞典有類似我問的那個句子的例句或說明？
另外，如果這裡沒有so，意思上會有什麼差別呢？
