The shooting last June should have been a wake-up call for
our political discourse, but we’ve only been on a further

自己理解的意思大概是自從Steve Scalise被開槍已經過了一年
但這次Diane Black受到威脅的事件也只被簡短的報導
這個槍擊事件對政壇應該是個警鐘
"but we’ve only been on a further slide since then."
以上這一句就不知道該怎麼理解了, 我們只前進了一頁??
