[請益] 論壇中的as many people as they can

各位好，請教一下

英語論壇中，網友Tdol說

Sometimes writers fatten up sentences with unnecessarily complex vocabulary
or structures to show off their knowledge instead of communicating their
meaning as clearly as possible to as many people as they can. Simple
communication is often the hardest- showing-off is easy.

想請問，倒數第二行的as many people as they can，後面省略了什麼重複的字呢？

我推測是：... to as many people as they can (communicate with).

請問各位看法如何呢？

推 cara5659: 反而對最後一句較好奇，可以兩個is?!
hardest後面有個破折號。
（雖然我覺得應該往前一格，放中間，但不知為何，他們有些人就習慣直接放單字後面，
可能是為了不想和連字號混淆吧？）
