By themselves, the phrases "except for" and "other than" have similar meanings. In sentences, both of them make a noun phrase, where "___ aesthetics" modifies "reasons": (b) they actually were designed for reasons except for aesthetics. (d) they actually were designed for reasons other than aesthetics. The noun phrase in (d) is okay, but the noun phrase in (b) is not okay. Note that (d) is similar to: The round windows are indeed pleasant to the eye, but they actually were designed for other reasons. https://reurl.cc/GoppZx -- https://english.stackexchange.com/questions/63155/except-for-vs-other-than -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc), 來自: 111.240.141.84 (臺灣) ※ 文章網址: https://www.ptt.cc/bbs/Eng-Class/M.1643446944.A.1EB.html ※ 編輯: ostracize (111.240.140.139 臺灣), 02/01/2022 19:32:54
