這句話原本的句型是
A strange sound rose from behind the house.
強調發出奇怪聲響的地點，
因此把From behind the house移到前面，
形成題目看到的
From behind the house rose a strange sound.
用原本的句型看，應該就知道為什麼不用had了
試試看喔，有問題再討論：）
