[文法] 什麼時侯加定冠詞 the

[HVIP (加油！)]

我目前的程度大致上知道10幾種應該加the的情況，

但是遇到課文還是不懂為何有時要加，有時卻不必加。


如：

Roots absorb water and nutrients from the soil.

The roots also hold the plant in the ground.

因為前面的課文有提到過 plant ，以及第二行的roots的the

就是指第1行的提到過的roots，所以知道要加the。


但不曉得為何第1次出現的soil 和 ground.

在課文的語意上要用定冠詞？有指示性？指著特定的土壤soil和土地ground？


如：
Most plants also have flowers.
Flowers help plants make new plants.
The flowers make seeds,and then the seeds grow into new plants.

這裡我不清楚為何第二句的flowers不必加the ，而第三句卻要加？
那第二句的plants為何也不必加the，難道不是指第1句講過的plants嗎？
