Although and yet are not usually used together nowadays, but they used to be.
I noticed this first back in the 1950s in my parents' copy of Encyclopædia
Britannica, which was full of strange spellings like colours and
polymerisation as well as these unusual turns of phrase. I assumed the usage
was British.
