Hello! I am a new transfer student at NTU, from a university in the United States. My Chinese is at an elementary level, so I've been looking for ways to actively employ it in my everyday activities. I've heard of PTT before I arrived, but only recently has my Chinese improved to the point where I could even properly register. Although the United States had BBS's in the early 1990s, they waned in popularity before the 2000s, and the closest comparisons today would be reddit and imageboards. The BBS is a relatively alien interface by comparison. As such, I had a few questions: 1. Is telnet the only way to post on a board? I don't see any sort of webpage interface (HTML) anywhere online. 2. When posting, is one supposed to make a newline when you reach the end of the page, or will the post be automatically formatted afterwards? (I have the creeping feeling this is less of an issue when using Chinese characters regardless.) 3.While I understand that any community has its inside jokes, is there a sort of common glossary or dictionary for newbies? (Links in Chinese are encouraged) Pardon my assault of questions, and thank you very much for taking the time to read this! -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc), 來自: 140.112.218.25 ※ 文章網址: https://www.ptt.cc/bbs/EngTalk/M.1488195072.A.0C2.html
