I asked my friend about miss u, and she told me that "Different culture have different definitions for I miss you " So, miss u in Chinese culture is meant for lover and family , but in English culture it is a basic manner when people say goodbye. As for Indians, they might have their own cultural meaning for “miss u ” , but they mostly follow the English way of using "I miss you". That's why ur friend felt angry cuz the joke is rude to them.
