Warriors center Willie Cauley-Stein to miss training camp with foot injury

Warriors center Willie Cauley-Stein will miss training camp with his new team 
because of a mid-foot strain, general manager Bob Myers announced Monday at
media day.

Cauley-Stein sustained the injury during a scrimmage last week, Myers said.
The Warriors plan to offer an update on Cauley-Stein at the end of October,
which means they expect him to miss at least the first few games of the

Golden State plays its opener Oct. 24 against the Los Angeles Clippers.

“It’s disappointing for him, mostly,” Myers said of Cauley-Stein’s
injury. “I know he was ready to go. You like to have new players have a
chance to get acclimated in camp. We want him to get back. The good news is,
he will be back.

“Camp is a formative time for him and his teammates, but there’s nothing
you can do. Hopefully, he’ll be able to watch and pick up on some things
without participating.”

Cauley-Stein, signed as a free agent on July 8, spent the first four seasons
of his career with Sacramento. He was projected to start at center for the
Warriors; this injury elevates Kevon Looney into the starting lineup.

Omari Spellman and Alen Smailagic are essentially the only other centers on
Golden State’s roster, and both of them are more forwards by nature.
