[計量] 一題數學題求解

The width and the length of a rectangular piece of plywood are 4 feet and 8 feet, respectively. Along one edge of the plywood, a strip x inches wide and 8 feet longis removed. Then, along an edge perpendicular to the 8-foot edge, a strip x inches wide is removed. For what value of x will the remaining rectangular piece have width and length in the ratio of 2 to 5? ( 1 foot = 12 inches)

我知道這題要求的是
可以讓寬度/長度會等於2/5的x值，
但是卡在這句
Then, along an edge perpendicular to the 8-foot edge, a strip x inches wide is removed.

我的解讀是:
在垂直於另一個8-foot的邊上，再移除x inches
這樣不就代表
再把另一個4 feet的寬(垂直於8-foot）
移除掉x inches嗎？
式子寫成
4-x /8 =2/5 求得x=9.6

但答案是16
是用 4-x/8-x = 2/5 求得的
不太懂為什麼要把8減掉x
不是應該要用垂直於8-foot 的邊（4feet) 去減x嗎？

描述的有點複雜，還煩請版上的大大
幫小弟我解答一下，看是我哪裡理解錯了

可是沿著垂直8feet方向 不就是指4feet嗎

所以說是 不用考慮an edge perpendicular 這句話嗎

推 fulgens     : 上述您說的這句應該是沿著邊緣且垂直已減去 x後的
→ fulgens     : 長軸？ 還是執著於後面的 perpendicular to the 8 f
→ fulgens     : 8 feet? 可是前面一句已經說要減了...
推 yzkeroro    : 第一段剪下 x inches * 8 feet, 所以是 48 - x
→ yzkeroro    : 再沿著垂直於8 feet的邊剪去x inches寬,為 96 -x
