收到版友內信請求提供英文考科第50題"find out"釋疑的書面紙本佐證資料,礙於不知道怎麼使用imgur上傳拍照或截圖到PTT,只能用打字將原貌呈現。 以下為英英、英漢字典對"find out"和"uncover"的定義: Merriam-Webster's Advanced LEARNER'S ENGLISH DICTIONARY(p617,p1784): find out[phrsal verb] 1 to learn or discover (something) by making an effort. e.g. We need to find out where the meeting is being held. uncover (verb)2:to "find out" or become aware of (something that was hidden or secret) e.g.We are still trying to uncover (the truth about) what happened. Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English (English-Chinese)(p557,p1679): find out phr v 1 [I;T(=find sthg. ⇔ out)] to learn or discover (a fact that was hidden or not known)發現,查明 e.g.I won't tell you-you'll have to find out for yourself! uncover(v.)[T] 2 to "find out" (something unknown or kept secret; discover 揭露;發現;使知道 e.g.The police have uncovered a plot to rob this bank. uncover和discover本來就是同義字,且如上所示,其定義也是"find out" 另增補前母校外語大學五專部英文系(大學部翻譯系) 所使用的教科書對動詞片語"find out"的定義: (和後母校譯研所不同間) 2nd Year Conversation & Writing (Unit 1,p1) find out(the truth/a secret/an address/the time/when/what/where/who etc.) to make an effort to discover or get to know (something) 很明顯find out的意思即付諸努力discover 綜合以上資料,請容我用英文表達意見和舉例解釋 Let me get it straight to you in English. Suffice it to say, I'm one hundred percent positive that you'll never see a question which takes form like No.50 in any given English proficiency test that measures candidates'language ability, let alone academic exams in the US such as SAT or ACT. It all boils down to the specific context about the situation in which the correct phrasal verb is used. In critiquing this type of question from a professional standpoint, I would say the problem is that an example sentence is lacking for the question and that the answer key provided by TPC is too arbitrary. Having said that,(D)uncover is the option that makes the most sense. To "learn about" has an overtone of passivity as people are either told or hear about something they didn't know. On the contrary,to “uncover”is more active because one takes the action/ the initiative to “find out”the truth or facts about something unknown. Over and above, “uncover”is synonymous with “discover”, both of which can be used interchangeably. Please refer to the sentence made below. “We’ll find out the solution to the hot-button issue sooner or later.” Find out here means to uncover something. Uncover means to discover something and when you discover something you essentially find out something. “We’re going to Mars to uncover alien life.” = “We’re going to Mars to discover alien life.” In both aforementioned cases, “uncover” and “discover” can be replaced by “find out”without the slightest difference in meaning. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc), 來自: 220.133.82.43 (臺灣) ※ 文章網址: https://www.ptt.cc/bbs/Gov_owned/M.1620832821.A.91F.html

NenaPolyglot: @disappear05:我已經在釋疑結果出爐那篇文章答覆 07/23 11:59
NenaPolyglot: 過了。"learn about"(得知、獲悉)只是"find out"的 07/23 11:59
NenaPolyglot: 一種意義,並不是所有find out的句子,都能用learn 07/23 11:59
NenaPolyglot: about解釋;"uncover"(發現、發掘)也是“find out 07/23 11:59
NenaPolyglot: ”的一種意義,很明顯是正確答案,重要的是真相, 07/23 11:59
NenaPolyglot: 不是分數,但官僚機構連權威的字典和英語母語人士 07/23 11:59

NenaPolyglot: ves on the ground seem to add more colors to na 07/23 11:59
NenaPolyglot: ture.” 有了“on the ground” 答案一定是只有(D) 07/23 11:59
NenaPolyglot: fallen 才對,但官方一開始給的答案卻是(B)falling 07/23 11:59
NenaPolyglot: ,完全不合乎文法邏輯,我申訴釋疑,照道理說這題 07/23 11:59
NenaPolyglot: 答案要改為(D)fallen才對,(B)falling是錯的,但釋 07/23 11:59
NenaPolyglot: 疑結果卻是(B)(D)都給分,說明承認有了“on the gr 07/23 11:59
NenaPolyglot: ound”文法上fallen才對,但硬拗falling“顯得詩情 07/23 11:59
NenaPolyglot: 畫意”。事實上,這種在ETS基本英檢TOEIC常見的考 07/23 11:59
