Galloway joins Hardaway in Fisher’s doghouse as Shved steps up. http://tinyurl.com/ngfjexv By Marc BermanMarch 4, 2015 | 12:53pm It’s been no secret Derek Fisher has been hard on Tim Hardaway Jr., but after the Knicks’ largest margin of defeat of the season, on Tuesday night against the Kings, the coach went after Hardaway and pet project Langston Galloway with uncharacteristically pointed remarks. Galloway and Hardaway started in the backcourt and both were dreadful in the disgraceful 124-86 loss. Galloway managed to post the second-worst plus-minus figure of the NBA season – logging a minus-40 in just 23 minutes. Starting at point guard with Jose Calderon out indefinitely, Galloway had one assist and shot 2-of-8. On one fast break, he drove straight into traffic in the lane and coughed up the ball without looking to feed it to a teammate. Hardaway got benched, too, playing 17 minutes and shooting 2-of-7 as Ben McLemore schooled him on both ends. Afterward, Fisher threw a dart that could have been aimed at both Hardaway and Galloway, the rookie out of the D-League who won over Fisher with his selflessness, moxie and clutch shot-making. Galloway hit the biggest shot in the victories over the Pistons and Raptors that preceded this debacle. “It’s easy to be envious and jealous of starters and franchise guys: ‘I wish I can play that much, I wish I can get that many shots,’ ’’ Fisher said. “When you’re in that situation, you find out how tough that really is. ’’ Meanwhile, combo guard Alexey Shved, obtained from th Rockets at the trade deadline in the Pablo Prigioni swap, keeps impressing Fisher. He had 15 points and got to the line nine times. Fisher hinted his role could expand at the expense of Hardaway and Galloway. “Alexey is continuing to find an identity and role within our team and showing us some ability to do some things in terms of handling the ball and making passes and plays,’’ Fisher said. “We have to continue to commit ourselves to helping him feel more and more comfortable every day. We have to rely on him even more because we’re sometimes inconsistent at the guard spots. Some of that is expected with Langston still learning how to bring it every night as a rookie guard, Tim still a second-year player and learning how to do those things. Hopefully we’ ll get Alex more up to speed.’’ Other observations: — Jason Smith, the Knicks ever-improving big man, somehow finished a plus-3 in 21 minutes in the 38-point rout. He scored 13 points. Smith is coming off the bench as Fisher has used the starting tandem of Lou Amundson and Andrea Bargnani the past three games. But Smith has been their most consistent big for some time. The Knicks have no power forward or center under contract for next season. Smith is making a play after signing a one-year deal for the mini mid-level exception ($3.2 million). He’s been solid since January, and Knicks president Phil Jackson would like to have him back for the right price. — Point guard Shane Larkin continues to impress as well since returning from strep throat. He had a 13-point, six-assist evening and drew praise from Fisher. The 2013 first-rounder has picked up a lot of seasoning during this messy campaign. Some other franchise may reap the benefits after Jackson didn ’t exercise Larkin’s $2 million option for next season.
