Kupchak: If Byron Scott's job status changes, 'I'll let you know'

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- Los Angeles Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak
addressed the media for the first time after the All-Star break on Wednesday,
and didn't go into detail about the future of Lakers head coach Byron Scott.

"Byron is under contract, and until that changes, or if that changes, I'll
let you know," Kupchak said at the team's practice facility in El Segundo.

When asked if he liked the job Scott had done this season, Kupchak said he
wouldn't be answering any more questions regarding Scott's performance or
future with the organization.

"Once again, I don't want to get into a Byron discussion right now," Kupchak
said. "So I'm not going to really answer any more questions about Byron,
because I'm concerned that one question will lead to another, and if his
status changes, I will let you know."

Later in the media scrum, a reporter brought up Scott again, asking Kupchak
if he was pleased with the way Scott has managed rookie point guard D'Angelo
Russell's playing time and role, which has been arguably the most polarizing
topic surrounding the Lakers' season.

Lakers VP of public relations John Black interjected, saying, "Excuse me,
he's not answering Byron questions."

Kupchak then responded, jokingly adding, "I was going to let him finish and
then say that, as part of his punishment. So, John, I can handle that."

Scott is still under contract for two more seasons with the Lakers, who hold
a team option for the 2017-18 season.
