Arizona Diamondbacks’ AJ Pollock is an MVP candidate

It takes awhile for Arizona Diamondbacks players to be recognized nationally.
The team hasn’t performed well in recent years, and as a West Coast team most
games are played while the rest of the country is sleeping. That’s why it’s
such a surprise to see Paul Goldschmidt voted into the All-Star game two years
 in a row. He overcame the disadvantage of playing for the D’Backs by playing
 so dang well no one could ignore him. AJ Pollock is now looking to do the same
, he’s playing so well that he legitimately needs to be in the NL MVP talks.

The problem with Pollock is that while he’s a very good hitter, he doesn’t
stand out as much as Goldy at the plate, especially in counting stats. He has
a very good .324 average and .376 on base, but only 13 home runs and 54 RBIs.
The low RBI count is a result of hitting lead off, which is why Pollock instead
leads the league with 88 runs scored. His home run numbers really aren’t that
bad considering he also hits plenty of doubles (30) and triples (5), bringing
his slugging percentage to .495. Of course that’s great, but not unbelievably
high, but it’s the fact that Pollock is able to do everything that makes him
so good.

Pollock is 33/39 in stolen base attempts this year. His 85% success rate ranks
him only behind Billy Hamilton in the NL for players with 30+ attempts. In
these days it’s very unusual to see a great hitter who steals as often as
Pollock does, even Mike Trout has stopped running.

Pollock has also been one of the best defenders in one of the hardest positions
to play. Both DRS and UZR have Pollock ranked with the best. The only thing
Pollock doesn’t do exceptionally is throw, but I think we can let him have one
flaw.

I should note that I’m not preaching for Pollock to actually win the MVP award
, not as it stands. Bryce Harper is having an incredible season that has him
winning if he continues his success, and Goldschmidt is right behind him. But
Pollock is among the top five players in the national league this year, and we
need to consider him over well known players like Buster Posey and Andrew
McCutchen.

並不是想要宣揚說Pollock會真的"贏得"MVP.Bryce Harper有著誇張的球季,如果他能繼續
他的成功的話,他會贏得MVP,而Goldschmidt會排在第二.但Pollock是今年國聯前五的球員
,我們應該要把他排在知名球員如Buster Posey跟Andrew McCutchen前面.
