The Oakland Athletics appear to be using the Winter Meetings, getting
underway at the Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville, as their opportunity to
move Brett Lawrie. Early Saturday morning, ESPN's Buster Olney tweeted:

And now a report from the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser citing
industry sources confirms that devotion, saying that the Cleveland Indians,
Detroit Tigers, and Chicago White Sox have interest in Lawrie and that the
A's "are ... looking to move [the] infielder." She also says the "Yankees are
thought to be a potential fit if they decide to add a second baseman."

Indians president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti told MLB Network
Radio today, "It's probably safe to say ... that if you're a corner bat or an
outfielder that we are investigating those options." The Indians are hoping
to improve on a year where they handed a combined 471 plate appearances to
Giovanny Urshela and Lonnie Chisenhall. In that same clip, Antonetti replied
to a question about trading from their available young pitchers by saying,
"It's something we recognize as a strength of our team and it's something
that we'd like to build upon moving forward but we're not going to be
close-minded[.]"

second base locked up for some time. If the A's want to move Lawrie to the
Tigers, they might have to wait a little while:

The White Sox finished a year where they were finished laughably poorly
against left-handed pitching, their 74 wRC+ against southpaws was last in the
American League. Lawrie hit lefties at a 128 wRC+ last year. At the moment,
you can pencil in Mike Olt (waived off the Cubs in September) and Tyler
Saladino (61 wRC+ in 254 plate appearances) at the top of their third base
depth chart.

News, but Yankees GM Brian "Cashman will continue monitoring the market to
see if an upgrade is available."
