Jeb Bush pulled back from his partnership with New York Yankees icon Derek
Jeter in part because the two couldn’t come together on how they’d set up
the hierarchy and who’d be the “control” person, people familiar with the
situation say.

But while there was a basic disagreement on that major issue, folks still
paint the parting as fairly or mostly “amicable,” and more importantly some
involved with the sale see Jeter as not only a viable alternative but even “
the favorite” to win the team.

“I believe Jeter’s in position to get the deal done,” one person familiar
with the discussions said. Bush was said by sources to be planning to chip in
only $10 million – less than 1 percent the sale price – so it’s hard to
understand how he could ever think he’d be in control. While it isn’t known
how much Jeter plans to invest, he is seen as the best possible vehicle to
raise money in baseball as a universally beloved and respected figure with
five rings and no blemishes on his record.

The Bush departure (and he has told people he exited over the control issue)
doesn’t seem to have dampened Jeter’s desire or effort to be part of an
ownership group, and many people do still see him as having a realistic
chance despite some financing concerns. Nor has it dampened the spirits of
some connected to the Marlins, who seem to still seem to prefer his group.

目前看來 Bush 的離開並不會減少 Jeter 的決心，很多人仍然認為 Jeter 是一個
適合的買家。

MLB, which also is undoubtedly excited about a possible Jeter ownership,
would want any incoming group to have close to $900 million in hand, and word
is that “both groups are still trying to solidify things,” according to
someone in the know.

MLB 希望買家手頭上至少有 $900M，兩個團隊都還在想辦法中。

The main rival for the team, the Tagg Romney-Tom Glavine group, has been
thought to be the more solid of the two groups financially, and while it isn’
t certain how much is lost in Jeter’s group with Bush dropping out, it may
not be much. It isn’t known whether any or many investors who were tied with
Bush will join with Jeter, but Bush, who tried once before and came close to
buying the Marlins (he is thought to have had a big financial backer then for
what was believed to be a purchase of around $900 million), had a few
investors but apparently didn’t raise very much money in the scheme of
things.

帶走多少，不過應該不多。目前還不清楚 Bush 帶來的金主會不會繼續和 Jeter 合作，
不過之前 Bush 雖然被視為大金主，但實際上並沒有募來很多錢。

Marlins people seem to have known about Bush’s coming departure, which was
first reported by AP, for weeks, and it hasn’t seemed to have dampened their
hopes one iota for a Jeter group – and though they obviously need two viable
groups to remain the bidding, others do share in that optimism.

馬林魚方也知道 Bush 離開的消息，但還是對 Jeter 有所期待，而且希望他留著
參與競標，這樣才能對另一團隊施加壓力。

It isn’t known why the Jeter group seems to be preferred, but while it’s
nice to have a baseball legend, it’s quite likely that the reason is that he
’s seen as having a good chance is that he may be seen as being more
amenable to the $1.3-billion asking price, or something close to it.

目前不清楚為什麼馬林魚對 Jeter 有這麼高的期待，可能是因為 Jeter 比較容易募資

Bush had denigrated as “fake news” reports skeptical about his chances to
buy the Marlins, and ultimately, those reports proved to be correct. He may
not have been low on energy, but he was decidedly low on funds
