Cubs' Willson Contreras suspended for two games after mask throw

Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras was suspended for two games by Major
League Baseball for "inappropriate actions" after he was ejected Friday for
arguing balls and strikes with umpire Jodan Baker.

During the confrontation, Contreras threw his mask to the ground and it
bounced and hit Baker in the leg as he argued in the fifth inning of the game
against the St. Louis Cardinals. MLB also fined Contreras.

Tensions begin to rise when Chicago Cubs pitcher John Lackey's 2-2 pitch,
with two outs and two men on in the fifth inning against Cardinals pitcher
Carlos Martinez, was called a ball. The pitch appeared to be in the strike
zone. Martinez hit the 3-2 pitch for an RBI single.

Lackey stormed to Baker and was ejected moments before Contreras. Lackey was
also fined an undisclosed amount.

"I apologize to everybody, to the fans, to MLB, to the umpire," Contreras
said after Friday's game, according to ESPN. "I'm sure if I see Jordan
[Baker] tomorrow I will apologize to him."

Contreras has appealed the suspension, meaning he'll be eligible to play
Saturday.
