MILWAUKEE -- Matt Harvey is staying with the Reds. A trade with the Brewers
 was not worked out on Friday, Cincinnati general manager Nick Krall said.

The Brewers were the team that claimed Harvey on revocable trade waivers th
is week and were talking trade with the Reds, MLB Network insider Jon Heyma
n reported. The sides had until 12:30 p.m. CT to make a deal, according to
Heyman.

Harvey, scheduled to start for the Reds against the Cubs at 1:20 p.m. CT, c
an be a free agent at season's end.

The Brewers reportedly showed interest in Harvey in July, when Milwaukee ge
neral manager David Stearns landed a late-inning reliever (Joakim Soria fro
m the White Sox) and two infielders (Mike Moustakas from the Royals and Jon
athan Schoop from the Orioles) but did not get a starting pitcher. It wasn'
t for lack of trying, said Stearns, who indicated he was close to acquiring
 one starter, only to see the deal fall apart.

Harvey, 29, did not pitch during the Reds-Brewers series at Miller Park thi
s week after working 6 1/3 scoreless innings on four hits against the Giant
s on Saturday. In the start before that, he allowed two runs on five hits i
n seven innings against the D-backs.

In 17 starts for the Reds spanning 90 1/3 innings, Harvey is 6-5 with a 4.2
8 ERA, with 14 home runs allowed, 21 walks and 69 strikeouts.
